Detailed hydrogeological study of the area relating to the crossing of the road in sub-river bed to the Velino River due to the presence on the right side of the river of a multi-stratum hydrogeological system whose upper aquifer would have been directly affected by the underground road layout.

The combination of these two distinct hydrogeological realities, combined with the presence of the Velino River as a whole constitutes an extremely complex hydrogeological system which could not be ignored in the planned project; in particular the interaction of the underground road layout with the shallow aquifer, all complicated by the interactions of the same aquifer with the hydraulic system represented by the Piediluco lake and the Marmore waterfall.

The assignment included the following work phases:

  • The analysis of the existing technical and planning material, the geognostic investigations carried out, in addition to the planned technical solutions;

  • A check was made of the technical material made available for the purpose of reconstructing the hydrogeological model of the 2D and 3D subsurface;

  • In the light of the above, further geognostic investigations have been prepared, with the execution and installation of open pipe piezometers to perform hydraulic tests and placing with tracers, in addition to defining in greater detail what had emerged from the previous investigations;

  • The definitive hydrogeological model of the area has been defined;

  • We proceeded to the construction of the 2D and 3D mathematical model with MODFLOW, in order to be able to reconstruct the interactions of the project in progress with the hydrogeological system defined above.

Environmental characterization of the subsoil and aquifer aimed at evaluating any current or past pollution phenomena in the Terni EX - POLYMER industrial site.

The study concerned exclusively the areas owned by the Company Basell Poliolefine Italia S.p.A.

 

The Environmental Characterization was drafted in accordance with the provisions of the current Regulation on polluted or potentially polluted sites and according to the Technical Specifications issued by the aforementioned Company, aimed at assessing the quality status of the land and groundwater, in order to verify any pollution phenomena caused by releases of substances in the course of previous industrial activities, the need for further investigations into specific areas and possible remediation interventions.

 

The direct-push technique using GEOPROBE was used for soil / subsoil surveys and related sampling.

 

Specific maps of the main substances found and used in the current and previous production cycles carried out in the Terni plant have been drawn up.

Geological and Hydrogeological study & Environmental characterization of the subsoil and aquifer aimed at assessing the extent of contamination found in the underground waters.

The study through the execution of approximately 40 geognostic surveys with piezometers for groundwater sampling, innumerable geotechnical and hydrogeological tests as well as periodic water analysis campaigns.

The Environmental Characterization was drafted pursuant to Legislative Decree 152/06 "Consolidated Environmental Law" and identified the conceptual model of contamination.

Further investigations are underway in order to delimit the contamination also towards external areas of the property.

The planning of the MISE - Commissioning in Emergency Security, largely carried out by the Company, has been prepared.

The Technical Office was responsible for the Geological and Hydrogeological Study and the geognostic investigations carried out for the construction of the Malagrotta Gasifier.

 

Geotechnical tests were carried out in situ and in the laboratory as well as load tests on poles for the design of the seabed structures.

 

The technical office also took care of the geotechnical part related to the geotechnical characterization of the foundation soils.

And he carried out the Geological Works Direction of the whole construction site.

 

A perimeter wall was also built to contain the North escarpment, 120 m long and about 10 m high

The Technical Office was responsible for the Geological and Hydrogeological Study and for the geognostic investigations carried out for the construction of the TMB 2 plant in Malagrotta.

Geotechnical tests were carried out in situ and in the laboratory as well as load tests on poles for the design of the seabed structures.

The Technical Office carried out the environmental characterization of the site pursuant to Legislative Decree 152/06 and subsequent amendments, drawing up the Characterization Plan and carrying out the relevant geognostic and sampling surveys of environmental matrices: soil, subsoil and groundwater.

2D and 3D reconstructions of the contamination present exclusively in the soil and subsoil matrices were carried out.

The risk analysis of the area was performed by defining the CSR (Risk Threshold Concentrations).

The Technical Office has drafted the Reclamation Project as

Setting in Permanent Area Safety and performed the

Works Management for the remediation itself.

The Technical Office has carried out the environmental characterization of the site in accordance with Legislative Decree 152/06 and subsequent amendments, for emergency safety measures

following a tipping of a tanker that carried landfill leachate to the nearby treatment plant.

 

The first steps were taken to remove the leachate from the roadway by absorbing granular materials and removing the leachate accumulated along the gutters and the adjacent ditch.

 

For the leachate dispersed in the perimeter ditch it was necessary to remove about 1 meter of land for a length of approximately 100 m.

 

After the removal of the soil contaminated by the ditch of San Martino, it was subsequently necessary to restore and consolidate the bank on the hydrographic right.

Consolidamento con gabbionate

Due to the removal of land contaminated by landfill leachate, the right side of the Fosso di San Martino hydrography was subjected to consolidation and new hydraulic regulation by arranging the bank by means of a system of three orders of gabbion.

 

The Technical Study performed the geological and geotechnical characterization of the area as well as the hydraulic-hydrological study in order to draft the project. In addition, he performed the Works Management.

 

In the executive phase it was necessary to reshape the slope in the hydrographic right for a length of about 100 meters.

 

For the leachate dispersed in the perimeter ditch it was necessary to remove about 1 meter of land for a length of approximately 100 m.

 

After the remodeling and protection of the right bank with gabbionate, geogrids have been put in place to increase the grip of the arable land above, as well as anti-erosion protection geotextiles.

The Technical Office has carried out the planning of the definitive coverage (Capping) of the RSU Landfill in loc. Inviolata.

 

The landfill has a surface of about 34 hectares. The design of the definitive capping has provided an alternative "package" to Legislative Decree 36/03 consisting of equivalent and very performing geosynthetic materials for their technical characteristics.

 

In order to design the definitive capping it was necessary to reconstruct the historical evolution of the landfill, the flattened volumes and consequently calculate the primary and secondary settlement the climatic weather characteristics of the area as well as the production of biogas.

 

The design included topographic surveys of the area in order to reconstruct the slope slope trend to calculate the stability of the final coverage.

 

Furthermore, a vegetation study was carried out in order to insert native species for the final re-establishment.
